Those who oppose pet ownership tend to have two major concerns. The first is the child’s safety. Indeed, there have been many cases in which a family pet, usually a dog, has attacked and seriously injured a child. Such a risk, to many people, is unacceptable. The other worrying issue for these people is the matter of allergies and illnesses. Animals, they argue, can trigger allergic that can have serious and even fatal consequences. Further, they can carry fleas, tics and which may be passed on to children. For these reasons, some choose not to have a pet in their home. Others, myself included, feel that owning a pet greatly children’s lives. From a physical perspective, it is clear that having a dog promotes exercise and outdoor activities. In fact, studies have shown that children with a family dog tend to spend 40% more time exercising than those without one. In terms social and emotional development, pets can also have a impact. in particular tend to better with stress and are more confident if they have a . Not only does the animal offer loyal friendship, but by caring for it, young people learn to be responsible and compassionate. In conclusion, although not everyone is suited to a pet, there are clearly some significant benefits that this relationship between child and animal can bring about.
